Ok, can't sneak past the nasties in Thief Gold?
What if they cant' move! Try this,
1. look in the Thief folder and find the file "motiondb.bin" .
2. rename it to "#motiondb.bin" .
3. Now start Thief and you find all the baddies can't move(and can't
hurt you!)except fire spirits
Get past the baddies, save you game , quit Thief , removed
the # from the motiondb.bin file, then restart Thief load
you game, and things are back to normal.
Couple of things you can't do when the file is
named "#motiondb.bin" you can't use any weapons, you
can't pickup some items(like keys from baddies) and you
can't use rope arrows. But once you've got past the
baddies you can rename the file, and everythings back
to normal.

Hints
-----
The enemies move in predictable patterns. Watch them for
a while to determine the best moment to sneak up and knock
them out.
For the areas that aren't mapped out (such as Song of the
Caverns), head in one direction until you reach a dead end,
then head in a different direction; keep your compass up to
help maintain your bearings.
The little colored hash mark on the right of your visibility
is an undocumented indication of how likely you are to be
seen. When it's red, an enemy always sees you. When it's
yellow, they may not see you if they're not searching.
When it's black, you're safe if they're not searching.
